Nanoparticles derived from tea leaves can inhibit the enlargement of lung cancer cells, destroy more than 80 percent of them, Indian and British scientist’s team has found.
Published in the journal Applied NanoMaterials outlines a new process of producing a type of nanoparticle called quantum dots. “. Tea leaf extract can be a non-toxic alternative to creation quantum dots using chemicals,” said Sudhagar Pitchaimuthu from Swansea University, who led the study.
Mr Pitchaimuthu said “The real disclosure, however, was that the dots actively inhibited the growth of the lung cancer cells. We had not been expecting this,”
Quantum dots can be made chemically, but this is complicated and pricey and has toxic side effects. Nanoparticles are already used in healthcare; quantum dots have only recently attracted researchers’ attention.
Already they are showing promise for use in dissimilar applications, from computers and solar cells to tumour imaging and treating cancer.
Using tea leaf takes out, The Swansea-led research team were, therefore, exploring a non-toxic plant-based alternative process of producing the dots.
KS Rangasamy College of Technology and Bharathiar University in Tamil Nadu including in the researcher’s team, explore a non-toxic plant-based substitute process of producing the dots, using tea leaf extract.
Tea leaves enclose a wide diversity of compounds, counting amino acids, vitamins, antioxidants, and polyphenols. The procedure which causes quantum dots to form, researchers, assorted cadmium sulfate and sodium sulfide with tea leaf and allowed the solution to keep warm. They then functional the dots to lung cancer cells.
Researcher’s team found that tea leaves are a simpler, cheaper and fewer toxic process of producing quantum dots, compared with using chemicals, confirming the results of other research in the field.
According to the expert, Building on this stimulating discovery, the next step is to scale up our procedure, self-assuredly with the help of other collaborators. We want to investigate the role of tea leaf extract in cancer cell imaging and the interface between quantum dots and the cancer cell.
We would like to set up a quantum dot factory which will permit us to discover more fully the habits in which they can be used. The expert believes tea leaves help you to protect your health and destroy the cause of lung cancer cells.
